A Module Leader is expected to perform the Services listed below for each Module the Module Leader is running. For the sake of clarity, some Modules may overlap and various duties may need to be performed concurrently. In this Agreement, Module means a study session of 22 weeks’ duration. However, a Module Leader’s duties will fall either side of this study session.  

 

For clarity, the academic structure and content of the module can be found in the respective Module Specification which can be found on the University of London web pages.  

 

Estimated time to be spent on Assignment: An average of three (3) hours per week for the carrying out of the Assignment, together with such additional time if any as may be required. 

Assessment duties  

As part of the Module Leader role, Module Leaders have responsibility for ensuring that assessment (i.e. assignments, final projects and / or exams) is conducted to a consistent standard.  

  1. 1) to set all assessments which includes (depending on the module) the coursework question(s), examination question(s), model answer(s), project assessment and the associated marking guides in accordance with UOL guidelines in liaison with the Programme Directors and the External Examiner; 

  1. 2) to ensure that the Examiner Team (the Online Tutor and the 2nd Marker) receives the coursework question(s), marking guidelines and marking sheet at the appropriate time and are familiar with the assessment marking process;  

  1. 3) to lead the Examiner Team for the Module and attend internal marking meetings and Board of Examiners;  

  1. 4) to be the Moderator for the Module in line with the Track C Assessment Marking Principles which includes producing a short report for the External Examiner on the consistency of application of the marking guidelines in the marking of coursework item(s), examination and project. The moderation and sample marking process can be found in the Addendum to the Guidelines for Examinations. 

  1. 5) to provide regular forum posts on overarching student performance in the Module and communicate and engage with tutors and instructors from teaching centres where appropriate; 

  1. 6) to hold at least 3 webinars throughout the 22-week session, focusing on the 10 topics as well as preparation for Module assessments. 

 

These assessment duties are also noted in the Guidelines for Examinations. 

 

Operational duties 

 

  1. 1) working with the Online Tutors, to decide upon and provide proactive support for students identified ‘at risk’ of non-completion of their studies; 

  1. 2) to provide dedicated subject area communication (e.g. regular posts and announcements) to students through tools on the University of London Virtual learning Environment (VLE) throughout the duration of the Module.; 

  1. 3) to communicate with the student body by regularly uploading messages in the Module Leader Announcements area, including a welcome message at the start of the Module, a supporting message for each topic, a preparation message prior to module leader webinars and the dates for the submission of each item of coursework and final assessment (project or examination); 

  1. 4) to liaise with other Module Leaders and the Programme Director to develop initiatives for the enhancement of student support;  

  1. 5) to coordinate feedback on the module and facilitate the module review at the end of each session;  

  1. 6) to map learning outcomes and assessment methods to relevant professional accreditation units, where applicable, and to adhere to requirements for ongoing and annual module review (i.e. annual review of learning outcomes mapping and re-mapping if revalidation occurs); and 

  1. 7) in relation to the Project module, to assess and support the research ethics process for the students’ projects, to lead the synchronous office hours and peer activity during the Module, as detailed in the project support model.

Assignment phases 

 

An Assignment may include 1 or more phases of work. In this Agreement, a phase may include, but is not limited to, assessment duties, operational duties or a combination of both assessment and operational duties.
