Dissertation Supervisor shall perform the following Services: 

 

Where the Dissertation Supervisor acts as a First Dissertation Supervisor of a Dissertation for a Student 

 

  1. 1) Act as first point of contact for the student as Dissertation Supervisor.  

  1. 2) The Dissertation Supervisor is not a co-author and should not be asked to provide detailed comments on multiple drafts of the dissertation.  

  1. 3) The Dissertation Supervisor's role is to assist after the proposal has been submitted and approved (a) in helping students to clarify their topic and identify the important research questions which it raises; and (b) while work proceeds, for instance by advising on how to cope with problems encountered and whether new ideas are worth developing.   

  1. 4) Hold at a mutually convenient time a maximum of 3 meetings with the student during the course of the supervision. These meetings can be carried out in a number of ways, including by email, synchronous online conversation, or over the telephone.   

  1. 5) A Dissertation Supervisor can comment on no more than 20% of a full draft of the thesis (to a maximum of 3000 words) only.  

  1. 6) First Mark dissertation within two weeks of advertised deadline, and return feedback to programme team.  

  1. 7) Respond to student queries within 48 hours and no later 72 hours and refer on any matters to the Programme Director/Deputy Programme Director.  

  1. 8) Encourage students to contribute to all parts of the dissertation module.   

  1. 9) Notify the Programme Director/Deputy Programme Director promptly of any problems arising with a student’s ability to progress and complete their dissertation.  

  1. 10) Attend Examination Board meetings, if required, at request of Programme Director.   

 

Where the Dissertation Supervisor acts as a Second Dissertation Supervisor of the Dissertation for a Student   

 

  1. 1) Act as secondary point of contact for the student as Dissertation Supervisor.  

  1. 2) Second Mark dissertation within two weeks of advertised deadline, and return feedback to Programme team.  

  1. 3) If required due to unforeseen circumstances befalling the First Dissertation Supervisor, take on any duties of the First Dissertation Supervisor as required.   

  1. 4) Notify the Programme Director of any problems or concerns that arise either with the student’s ability to progress and complete their dissertation.   

  1. 5) Attend Examination Board meetings, if required, at request of Programme Director.
