Schedule 2: The Services
A Module Leader is expected to perform the Services listed below for each Module the Module Leader is running. For the sake of clarity, some Modules may overlap and various duties may need to be performed concurrently. In this Agreement, Module means a study session of approximately 22 weeks’ duration. However, a Module Leader’s duties will fall either side of this study session.
For clarity, the academic structure and content of the module can be found in the respective Module Specification which can be found on the University of London web pages.
Assessment duties
As part of the Module Leader role, Module Leaders have responsibility for ensuring that assessment in a particular question paper or papers is conducted to a consistent standard.
- to set all assessments which includes (depending on the module) the exam paper, coursework question(s), model answers, project assessment and the associated marking guides in accordance with UOL guidelines from time to time in force and in liaison with the external examiner;
- to ensure the Online Tutor receives the coursework question(s), marking guidelines, marking timetable and marking sheet before marking commences and is familiar with the assessment marking process.
- to lead the Examiner Team for the Module and attend internal marking meetings and Board of Examiners; provide a final report to be incorporated into the Module review.
- to be the Moderator for the Module in line with the Track C Assessment Marking Principles which includes producing a short report for the External Examiner on the consistency of application of the marking guidelines in the marking of coursework item, examination and project. The moderation and sample marking process can be found in the Addendum to the Handbook for Examinations
- to provide regular forum posts on overarching student performance in the module
- Within a module, the role of Module Leader is mutually exclusive from the role of Online Tutor and/or examiner/marker.

Operational duties
- to support Online Tutors academically, through familiarisation and appropriate catch-up meetings, addressing student queries they have escalated and disseminating key messages and instructions to improve the student experience.
- to provide dedicated subject area communication to students through tools on the University of London Virtual learning Environment (VLE);
- to communicate with the student body at key points of the student journey in the Module, including a welcome message at the start of the Module, a preparation message prior to the dates for the submission of each item of coursework and final assessment (project or examination);
- to liaise with other Module Leaders and the Programme Director to develop initiatives for the enhancement of student support;
- to coordinate feedback on the module and facilitate the module review at the end of each Module; and
- to map learning outcomes and assessment methods to relevant professional accreditation units, where applicable, and adhere to requirements for ongoing module review (i.e. annual review of learning outcomes mapping and re-mapping if revalidation occurs).

Assignment phases
An Assignment may include 1 or more phases of work. In this Agreement, a phase may include, but is not limited to, assessment duties, operational duties or a combination of both assessment and operational duties.
