A “Module” shall mean study session of approximately 12 weeks’ duration. For the sake of clarity, the academic structure and content of the Module can be found in the respective Module Specification which can be found on the University of London web pages.

All comments and feedback recorded by a Contractor about the performance of a candidate in coursework, whether on the script or elsewhere, may be requested by a candidate making a subject access request (see Handbook for Examinations, paragraph 4.5.11).

 SECONDARY MARKING DUTIES

Second marking (sampling) is usually required across all items of assessment where the following grades have been assessed by a First Marker:

  • all fails;
  • mid-class examples for each class (mid-fifties, mid-sixties, distinctions);
  • examples of all upper borderlines (49, 59, 69); and
  • the higher of either: at least 10% of assessments, or: at least 5 assessments.

The secondary marking services shall include the following:

  • sample second mark assigned coursework/examinations using the published sampling and marking criteria and marking scales and to review any discrepancies with the First Marker;
  • to ensure marking across all scripts is consistent and aligns with the programme’s marking scheme and expected outputs; and
  • to ensure that students’ approach to all summative work complies with the University’s assessment rules and regulations.

Estimated time to be spent on Module: Return of marks needs to be completed in accordance with the marking schedule produced for the Module.

Allocation of Modules:  The RHUL Distance Learning administration team will provide details of your module allocation during the academic year.  Please direct any additional enquiries concerning the exact schedule, timetable, and the number of examinations to be graded to the programme management team at RHUL.
