In this Agreement, a module means a study session of approximately 16 weeks’ duration (“Module”)For clarity, the academic structure and content of the Module can be found in the respective Module Specification which can be found on the University of London Programmes’ web pages.  

 

A Module Leader is expected to perform the following Services: 

 

Assessment duties (for Web supported and Teaching Centre supported students) 

 

  • As part of the Module Leader role, Module Leaders have responsibility for ensuring that assessment (i.e. assignments, final projects and / or exams) is conducted to a consistent standard.    
  • Set all assessments which includes (depending on the module) the exam paper, coursework question(s), model answers, project assessment and the associated marking guides in accordance with University of London Worldwide guidelines. 
  • Lead the Examiner Team for the Module and attend internal marking meetings and Board of Examiners; provide a final report to be incorporated into the Module review. 
  • Ensure the Online Tutor receives the coursework question(s), marking guidelines, marking timetable and marking sheet at the beginning of each session and is familiar with the assessment marking process. 
  • Be the Moderator for the Module in line with the Track C / Standard Academic Model Assessment Marking Principles which includes producing a short report for the External Examiner on the standards applied in first and sample marking by coursework item, examination and project. The moderation and sample marking process can be found in Appendix 3: The Track C / Standard Academic Model Assessment Marking Principles. 
  • Provide regular forum posts on overarching student performance in the module. 
  • Within a module, the role of Module Leader is mutually exclusive from the role of Online Tutor and/or examiner/marker.

All comments and feedback recorded by an Online Tutor about the performance of a candidate in their assessments, whether on the script or elsewhere, may be requested by a student making a subject access request (see Handbook for Examinations, paragraph 4.5.11).

Operational duties (for web supported students only) 

 

  • To oversee the running of their allocated module.  
  • To manage the Online Tutors assigned to their module. 
  • Working with UoL colleagues, the Programme Director and Online Tutors, to decide upon and provide proactive support for students identified ‘at risk’ of non-completion of their studies. 
  • To provide dedicated subject area communication (e.g. regular posts and announcements) to students through tools on the University of London Virtual learning Environment (VLE) throughout the duration of the Module. Please note in the event the Module Leader is unable to provide the Services or wishes to interrupt an Assignment for a defined period of time, the Module Leader is required to notify the University pursuant to clauses 5.3 and 17.4 of the Agreement. 
  • To communicate with the student body by uploading weekly messages in the Module Leader Announcements area, including a welcome message at the start of the Module, a preparation message prior to the dates for the submission of each item of coursework and final assessment (project or examination) as well as feedback on their assessments (i.e. coursework and exams). 
  • To set all assessments which includes (depending on the Module) the exam paper, multiple choice question tests, model answers, practice exam paper or past exam paper, and the associated marking guides in accordance with University of London Worldwide guidelines from time to time in force and in liaison with the External Examiner.  
  • To liaise with other Module Leaders and the Programme Director to develop initiatives for the enhancement of student support.    
  • To coordinate feedback on the module and facilitate the module review at the end of each Module  
  • To facilitate the Annual Module Review process and complete the associated annual report  
  • To review the ‘Online Tutor Activity Schedule’ and update if required  
  • hTo map learning outcomes and assessment methods to relevant professional accreditation units, where applicable, and to adhere to requirements for ongoing module review (i.e. annual review of learning outcomes mapping and re-mapping if revalidation occurs)
